Music and Style: Emily Haines

For this weeks Music and Style installment I went about it in a different way from usual. Rather than choosing somebody that I already knew to be a stylish musician, I took somebody who I've been listening to a lot recently, Emily Haines of Metric, who I actually had no idea what they dressed like and found out.

Metric aren't well known at all in the UK, they had a bit of a hit with Monster Hospital back in 2005, but haven't really made much of an impact since. I really like Metric, but the only reason I am even listening to them now is that Dave and I recently merged our itunes and Metric were one of 'my' bands he discovered. This prompted me to download the new album a couple of weeks back and I've been listening to it since. But I actually had no idea what Emily Haines looked like other than that she was pretty and blonde. Turns out she has quite a classic style, sort of what you might describe as French chic, but with an indie twist. Muted colours, and simple, sleek lines. Nothing to distract from her natural beauty. But what's going on with that gold lame romper suit is anyone's guess!

Yes! Metric is a top 5 band for me, and her solo record was good too. The latest album Fantasies I think is the best yet - we listen to it over and over constantly (like you tend to do). Andyes, she does love short skirts and shorts! :)

I met Emily here in Sydney just the other day, what a cooincidence you're posting about her style here, cause she had FABBO style.

Check out this acoustic track they did here when they were in Australia:

So simple, neat and totally youthful, but still respectful of her age. When I first heard their music, I kept getting them mixed up with La Roux, but they're much cooler and older!

I love Metric. I haven't heard her solo stuff, but I have seen them live and she has such an angelic voice!
