Outfit 18 September 2009 and Museum of Things

18 September 2009 day

long sleeve tee - an old aa one, dyed burgundy by me
yellow cowl neck - people tree
shoes - converse
bangle - beacon's closet

On the Friday in Berlin we had quite a chilled day. We visited Made in Berlin (which I talked about yesterday) in the morning, then had a relaxed lunch and then the Museum of Things (link is in German only). The Museum of Things is the most awesome place, probably my favourite place we visited on this trip. It's in Kreuzberg, a part of Berlin most tourists probably never go to, but it's totally worth it. It's run by the Deutscher Werkbund (craft union?) an organisation established in the early 20th centrury to document developments in craft and design. The various directors and members collected together things that they thought were important or symptomatic of the time, including many everyday objects, and this museum is the result. It's quite a small space, but crammed full of stuff (over 20,000 things) arranged in new and interesting ways. It made my (repressed) collectors heart sing!

Along the wall, things are packed tightly into cupboards, and organised roughly by type:
Museum der Dinge

Then in the middle of the room, there are cupboards with a bit more space and some interpretation of the meaning of this particular type of 'thing'/design theme. This part is constantly being rearranged to make way for showcasing a new part of the massive collection.

Some other pictures from that day (Dave bought a pengiun doorstop/bookend/cute thing which seems to be in pretty much all the pictures I took that day):
